Dressing for Easter Without Looking Like an Egg

With the beginning of Spring colors of our wardrobe starts shifting from a somber palate of greys, blacks, browns and dark greens to a livelier and, well, spring-like range of colors.  How many Easter Sundays growing up did your mom, and maybe your SO since, get you dressed in a pastel blue or green stripe shirt with a pink tie?  Then you’d walk off, self-conscious about the number of colors & patterns & the fact that you vaguely look like a Cadbury Egg wrapper.  Look deep into the mirror & repeat after me, “It doesn’t have to be this way.”

           Colors

Pastels; pink, mauve, baby blue, yellow, are the ringleaders when it comes to Easter dressing.  Believe it or not, you’ve got more options than you think.  It’s not all about pastels during this start to Spring.  You can go a chalky route that takes the idea of pastels and fades them out slightly or adds a slub to give it a worn-down look.

Neutrals such as beige, gray, khaki, ivory, etc.. are great options to pair with any color as a way to add a look of effortlessness to your ensemble.  What’s even better, is that it actually IS effortless, you don’t have to think too much about it.  Khaki or tan jacket?  Just throw it over that pastel pink or chalky blue shirt.  Done.

There is also the option for a deeper spring related color, think teals or oranges or 2018’s color of the year, Purple.  If opting for a deeper color please do not wear it as a solid shirt.  It’s our opinion that in 2018 wearing a solid deep teal shirt may result in having someone come up to you to buy a used car.  Use deeper colors in a pattern.

Patterns

Of course, if you’re having trouble deciding on one or two colors to wear opt for many colors in a print or pattern.  You’ve probably got some great patterns already in your closet, a multi-colored tattersall from Johnnie-O, a bold gingham from Peter Millar or a bright check from Fish Hippie.   However, if you have a bright colored pair of chinos that match the shirt, we highly recommend you wear them to stand out a bit more!
